The Studio of Helen Joy

Helen Joy Self portrait September 2013

They say "You teach best that which you most need to learn"

"Balance was the word I used to hear in my head as a child. And the visions. They didn't happen very often but I recall once stepping up onto a tram in Adelaide, (I think I was about 12) and having this vision that I was actually stepping up onto a magnificent stage and about to talk about Balance. I didn't understand what it was all about but it felt exciting and wonderful. By the time I reached my destination, I had reconciled in my mind, that even though I didn't understand it now, I knew that one day I would". Helen Joy

That day is here right now!

Balance is the key and even for Helen Joy, this can be a challenge sometimes. Everything in your life, in balance. In total harmony. Is it achievable? What would life be like if more of us had balance? Can everyone have balance? Imagine if everyone lived in balance! Not only with themselves but with each other and with the whole universe.  "I don't know if we could ever see a whole world in balance but I picture it often in my mind". I truly believe the more people who strive for balance, the more people who can picture what our world would be like if more people were Balanced, the more chance we will have of finding it.

To Helen Joy balance means a bit of hard work. No pain - no gain! It is something she has to strive for (just like everyone else) and  that does means a bit of discipline. She know's she has to go for a run/walk every day. She has to eat what she knows is good for her. She has to control how often she drinks alcohol. She has to be aware of her thoughts even. Helen say's, the minute she starts doing anything contrary to these simple things, her life begins to turn to blaaaa!!!  Helen believe's we are all the same but in saying that, we also all have choice.

Create

Find the time, every day if you can, to do something creative. Draw a picture, do a painting, sing a song, write the song would be even better. The more you are creative, the more creatively you begin to think and the more interesting life becomes. Visualise how you want your life to be! Anyone can visualise! If you think you can't you won't. It is a form of meditation. It is a gift we are all given, unfortunately without a 'how to' manual. Just picture in your mind, what you want your life to be. Now get creative, draw it, paint it, start having fun with your life.

Helen draws, paints, takes photo's. She splashes coffee, she photograph's messes/stains (to her they are art). She photographs rocks because they look like elephants or tortoises. She has learned how to turn off the left brain chatter and here the wind.  She can stop running to smell the roses. Helen endevours to live in the now!
